Am I Eligible for Hospice Care?
You may be eligible for hospice care if:
- You have a serious or terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less if the disease follows its expected course
- Your physician and hospice medical director certify eligibility
- You choose comfort-focused care rather than aggressive or curative treatments
Common conditions that may qualify for hospice include:
- Cancer
- Heart disease
- Lung disease (COPD)
- Kidney failure
- Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease
- Stroke or neurological conditions
Eligibility is reassessed regularly, and hospice care can continue as long as the patient meets the criteria.
