What Is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is specialized, compassionate care designed for individuals who are facing a life-limiting illness and are no longer seeking curative treatment. The primary focus of hospice is comfort, dignity, and quality of life, rather than curing the illness.

Hospice care addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological needs of both the patient and their loved ones. Services are provided by a dedicated interdisciplinary team that may include nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains, home health aides, and trained volunteers.

Hospice care can be provided in:

  • The patient’s home
  • Assisted living facilities
  • Nursing homes
  • Hospice centers or inpatient facilities

The goal is to ensure comfort, pain management, emotional support, and peace during the final stages of life.
